Teen Volunteer Program
Shands Jacksonville has a summer teenage volunteer program that provides many benefits for teens, including:
- Meet community service hours
- Make new friends
- Learn job skills
- Use free time productively to help others
- Explore careers
Summer Student Volunteer (SSV) Program
Community service program for high school students (ages 14-17). Program coordinated by the Shands Jacksonville Volunteer Services Department.
Application Process
Students interested in signing up for the SSV program should contact the volunteer office and provide their name, address and phone number by mid-March. Contact may be made by calling (904) 244-4271 or by e-mailing tina.wrye@jax.ufl.edu.
Interested students will be invited to attend a mandatory teen information session mid-March, along with a parent or guardian.
Students will be given an application form and asked to provide references and attend an interview with a Volunteer Services staff member.
Enrollment is limited to 75 students, with first priority given to returning teens from the previous summer.
Requirements
Complete volunteer orientation and agree to serve 80 hours on a set schedule; purchase Shands Jacksonville volunteer uniform shirt ($15); and provide own transportation to and from Shands Jacksonville.
Dates
Six weeks (mid-June through July)
Schedule
Two full days per week, unless otherwise specified, on either Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday

Administrative offices, guest services areas, outpatient clinics and ancillary departments
