9th Grader Presents Research at UF’s Medical Education Week

A 9th grader from Darnell Cookman’s School of the Medical Arts (SOMA) presented his research alongside University of Florida physicians at their medical education week in late April. Tony Hansberry developed a technique that reduces surgical time for minimally invasive hysterectomies while volunteering at UF’s Center for Simulation Education and Safety Research (CSESaR). The director of CSESaR, Bruce Nappi, took Hansberry under his wing allowing him to work with the same equipment and high-fidelity mannequins that physicians and nurses use in training. In addition to getting the attention of UF physicians, Hansberry’s project took second place in the regional science fair. His story also got the attention of media from around the world.
