The Shands Jacksonville Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) saves the lives of hundreds of newborn infants each year. These tiny patients receive the finest medical care possible in our 43-bed NICU. As a Level III (highest designation) regional referral center, physicians and staff provide intensive care for infants from around Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. The team of caregivers includes board-certified UF neonatologists and pediatric surgeons, neonatal nurse practitioners and physician assistants, as well as nurses, respiratory therapists, transport specialists and other specially trained support staff who are on hand 24 hours a day to respond to newborn infants in need of highly skilled care.
Arts in Medicine at Shands Jacksonville has redefined the meaning of hope by sharing the triumphant stories of 13 babies treated at the Shands Jacksonville NICU. These babies, some small enough to be carried in the palm of your hand, received lifesaving care in the Shands Jacksonville NICU.
