The University of Florida Division of Women's Imaging at Shands Jacksonville uses conventional mammography and ultrasound for breast imaging as well as image-guided biopsy/localization procedures. In addition, we now offer 3-D breast Tomosynthesis as an additional view to the traditional 2-D diagnostic mammogram. The largest benefits of tomosynthesis for patients are the reduction of false positives and call backs on mammograms, providing a more specialized view giving patients piece of mind as well as improving their comfort throughout their mammography experience.
The division has expanded its services at both the newly renovated Shands Jacksonville Breast Health Center (MQSA accredited) and the new Advanced Breast Imaging Center to include newer forms of X-ray-based mammography and breast ultrasound (3-D imaging and elastography). Available imaging modalities include digital 2-D mammography with 3-D tomosynthesis option, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), ultrasound and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging as well as radioactive seed localization.
