The University of Florida Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Shands Jacksonville provides comprehensive evaluation and care of the injured athlete, from the professional level to the "weekend warrior" of all ages. The physicians have been fellowship trained in the field of orthopaedic sports medicine and reconstructive shoulder surgery. They are committed to advancing the science of care of the injured athlete by performing original research and educating resident physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other providers in the community and throughout the country.
The division currently provides orthopaedic medical care for the Jacksonville Suns baseball team, Edward Waters College and several Duval County public high schools. They also serve as orthopaedic consultants for the Jacksonville Barracudas hockey team.
These UF faculty physicians are specialists who exclusively focus on the care of injured athletes and patients with shoulder injuries or disorders. As such, they are an ideal resource for patients who seek a second opinion and definitive treatment of complex cases and prior surgical therapy. The physicians are well versed in evidence-based medicine and incorporate these concepts into all facets of the evaluation and treatment of their patients.
