Medical Services
The UF Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology in Jacksonville conducts outpatient clinics and also provides full-time inpatient hospital consultation services at Shands Jacksonville.
Unique services provided by the division's faculty include:
- Non-surgical biological treatment for patients with Dupuytren's contracture with a palpable cord. Dupuytren's contracture is a condition that could limit the range of motion in the fingers and cause significant discomfort to the patient. We offer a biological early stage injection procedure that takes less than 5 minutes to perform in the office.
- Musculoskeletal ultrasound services, which uses non-ionizing sound waves at high frequency to image tissue. The test is performed by rheumatologists and can last from 15 to 30 minutes with minimal discomfort. Musculoskeletal ultrasound may be used:
- To help pinpoint the source of pain in areas such as the shoulder, elbow, hand, knee and foot
- To evaluate for tendon inflammation
- For evaluation of nerve entrapment such as at the hand or elbow
- To determine if signs of joint inflammation or damage are related to arthritis
- Determining response to therapy for arthritis
- For assistance of placement of local injections under ultrasound visualization
