Patient services offered by the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry at Shands Jacksonville include:

  • Adult Psychiatry
Adult services provided at the UF Psychiatry Clinic include psychiatric evaluations, psychological testing, individual, group, marital and family therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and medication management.

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Child and adolescent services provided at the UF Developmental Pediatric Center include psychiatric and psychological assessments, individual therapy, parent training, cognitive-behavioral therapy, psycho-educational testing and medication management.

  • Consultation-Liaison Services
Consultation-liaison services, or psychosomatic medicine, are provided at Shands Jacksonville. Consultation-liaison psychiatry is dedicated to assisting clinical staff and patients by providing evaluation and treatment of psychiatric illnesses which can arise in the presence of a primary medical illness. Prompt evaluation and treatment of psychiatric illnesses is often essential in optimizing care for the medical patient as underlying psychiatric issues can often exacerbate the primary medical issue, increase length of stay in the hospital or hinder effective medical treatment. The psychiatric consultant can help distinguish if psychiatric symptoms are the result of a primary psychiatric issue, the medical illness, the medications being used or a combination of all these factors and then make appropriate recommendations to best help the treatment teams provide optimal care for their patients.

  • Mental Health Services in Primary Care
Mental health services in primary care are provided by a clinical psychologist working in the UF Community Health Center. Services provided include individual and group therapy to patients who are seen by community health medical providers, group therapy (currently a men's support group and women's weight management group), a smoking cessation group for patients, employees and people from the community, and providing education to providers on mental health issues.
