Bone and Soft Tissue

Our soft tissue and bone pathology division offers expert interpretation of various types of specimens, including fine needle aspirations, biopsies, excisions and wide resections.

Close to 1 million benign soft tissue lesions are diagnosed annually in the United States. Benign lesions heavily outnumber malignant counterparts (sarcomas) by a ratio of about 150-to-1. Sarcomas are therefore relatively infrequent, representing only about 1 percent of all malignant tumors.

The division utilizes the most advanced technologies currently available for the identification and diagnosis of soft tissue lesions, including light microscopy, electron microscopy, flow cytometry and immuno- and histochemistry. We developed a working collaboration with Brigham and Woman's hospital in Boston, MA, for referral of our cases to the Harvard University cytogenetics laboratory.
