The University of Florida Department of Otolaryngology at Shands Jacksonville provides comprehensive medical care for diseases of the ear, nose and throat in both children and adults. The board-certified faculty physicians diagnose and treat the following conditions:
- Airway problems
- Allergies
- Cancer of the head and neck
- Hearing and ear problems
- Infections of the head and neck
- Nasal illnesses/diseases
- Sleep apnea
- Tonsil disease
- Trauma to the head and neck
These specialists also perform surgery for sinus problems, facial trauma reconstruction, facial cosmetic procedures, speech services, videostroboscopy and Botox injections, as well as transnasal esophagoscopy, which allows the patient to have the esophagus examined without the need for extensive sedation.
The Department of Otolaryngology is an integral part of an important multidisciplinary service: the Center for Pediatric Facial Disorders. The addition of the UF Proton Therapy Institute on the Shands Jacksonville campus offers unique and beneficial treatment for head and neck cancer.
