Dedicated Inpatient Unit

The Neuroscience Institute's dedicated inpatient unit is located on the fourth floor of the Shands Jacksonville Clinical Center at 655 W. 8th St. [driving directions]. It includes:

• Specially trained nursing staff and medical support team specializing in the evaluation and treatment of neurological diseases
• Dedicated pharmacists, case workers and therapists to provide multidisciplinary, comprehensive care
• Newly renovated private rooms reserved exclusively for neurology and neurosurgery patients, including a stroke rehabilitation gym for early stroke rehab
• Newly renovated patient rooms and waiting areas, including six private video EEG monitoring rooms for epilepsy diagnosis and treatment
• A JCAHO- and ACHA-certified inpatient Stroke Center

Patients may be referred to the Neuroscience Institute by their primary care physician or a specialist. Most insurance plans are accepted.

The 30,000 square-foot Neuroscience Institute outpatient facility is located in Shands Tower 1 at 580 W. 8th St. It includes:

• Movement Disorder and Parkinson's Center
• JCAHO-certified Stroke Center (outpatient)
• Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Center
• Neuropathy Center
• Comfortable patient examination and waiting room areas
• The latest neurophysiology testing labs
• Transcranial doppler labs
• Comprehensive patient and family education libraries
• Monthly neurological disease support group meetings for patients and families
