The University of Florida Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine is comprised of three board-certified physicians who provide a wide range of services at Shands Jacksonville to patients with high-risk pregnancies. The physicians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for consultations. The goal of the division is to ensure an excellent outcome for both the mother and the baby in pregnancies impacted by maternal or fetal complications.

The division actively participates in prenatal counseling for the mother and develops strategies aimed at maintaining good health during pregnancy, as well as assisting with any challenges that might occur in labor and delivery. The division works closely with University of Florida neonatologists in the environment of a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (highest level) at Shands Jacksonville. Transfers to Shands Jacksonville of women with premature labor or other fetal abnormalities occur so that the baby, when delivered, will have the best possible neonatal care.
