Clinical Trials
The Cardiovascular Center's research team consists of physicians, doctoral specialists, nurses and other professionals trained in conducting clinical research trials. University of Florida physicians serve as principle investigators in all areas of cardiovascular medicine research.
Our studies provide data to support the use of new treatments for cardiovascular disease, as well as new applications for existing treatments. Some of the center's past studies involve the world's smallest high-voltage implant to treat heart failure, hypothermia to limit heart damage during a heart attack and drug-coated stents.
Clinical research trials provide knowledge, treatments and procedures that are on the cutting edge of cardiovascular medicine, ultimately providing patients with the most precise methods of preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases. Patients may also receive additional benefits from individualized treatments made possible by participating in specialized clinical trials.
The Cardiovascular Center's research capabilities include inpatient and outpatient trials for acute and chronic cardiac disease processes.
Patients are carefully selected for participation. If they meet study criteria and choose to participate, they follow their standard regimen of treatment, as well as requirements of the trial. Patients are educated about their participation and are intimately involved in the course of the trial and treatment options.
