Evaluation and Diagnosis
An accurate history and careful physical examination is performed. The description of patient complaints and any experiences that have improved or worsened the symptoms is important information. Rarely, x-rays with dye or radiologic scans are necessary to complete the evaluation and diagnosis.
Endoscopic (anoscopy/proctoscopy) evaluation will typically identify an abnormal condition. Not only can the problem be visualized, but these procedures can allow access for biopsies, which are extremely important in the diagnostic portion of the evaluation.
