Medical Services and Treatments
Adolescent health issues that are evaluated and treated include:
- Menstrual disorders, such as excessive pain or irregular bleeding. Most menstrual problems can be easily evaluated and treated.
- Menstrual management for developmentally delayed women.
- Vaginal discharge or irritation. Most irritations and infections are easily diagnosed and have effective treatments.
- Contraception. The physicians can initiate numerous methods to prevent pregnancy.
- Male genital complaints. The physicians are expert in diagnosing and treating or referring all male genital problems.
- Mood/emotional problems. Determinations can be made whether the teen might benefit from medications or a more in-depth evaluation by a mental health provider.
- Acne is easily treated with a variety of medications.
- School failure. Evaluation will assist in helping a teen complete high school.
- Drug use/abuse. An evaluation will determine if a teen is using dangerous levels of drugs or alcohol, then a treatment plan will be developed.
- Sexually transmitted infections. All infections can be evaluated and appropriate treatment initiated.
- Eating disorders. Teens are evaluated, and if serious problems exist, treatment is arranged.
- Chronic illnesses. Most chronic illnesses are easily managed by the adolescent medicine specialist, who will help teens learn how to care for their own health needs.
