DetailsA Night for Heroes is an annual black-tie gala honoring the men and women of our community who care for trauma victims and provide support for victims' families. The event recognizes two trauma patients, one adult and one pediatric and honors all of the "heroes" who helped in their recovery. These heroes include UF physicians, Shands Jacksonville nurses and technicians, TraumaOne flight crew, fire rescue personnel, police officers and many others. A traumatic injury can change the lives of victims and their families forever. What happens in the moments after an injury can make the difference between life and death. The TraumaOne team works together with local resources and agencies to ensure there are as many happy endings as possible. In its 24-year history, TraumaOne has been credited with saving thousands of lives and is considered one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation. The program serves 27 counties in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia and treats more than 4,300 patients each year. Proceeds from the event will help fund a new communications center. The TraumaOne Communications Center takes EMS calls from every fire rescue unit in our service area and dispatches eight helicopters as far away as Mobile, Ala. Funds will also support trauma family services, staff training, and state-of-the-art medical equipment. Join Shands Jacksonville and the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville on the red carpet for a night in old Hollywood for A Night for Heroes on Saturday, January 24. The evening celebration will include dinner and dancing as well as live and silent auctions. When: Jan. 24, 7 pm |
