Student Insurance

A group hospitalization insurance policy is provided for each student upon admission to the program. Shands Jacksonville provides the insurance and pays the student premiums for the duration of their training. A copy of the policy will be provided to each student after the appropriate forms have been completed.

A $10,000 life insurance policy is also provided to each student. The cost of these policies is absorbed by the hospital as a benefit to the student.

Student Meals

Meal tickets are provided for each student for use in the hospital cafeteria and must be used only by the person to whom the ticket has been issued. The meal ticket is to be used only during scheduled hours in the hospital. The ticket will permit each student lunch. In the event the meal ticket is lost or stolen, cost of replacement must be borne by the student. Students are allowed one half hour for lunch during a scheduled shift. Lunch schedules will be arranged by the faculty or immediate supervisor in the clinical area assigned. Current meal ticket value is $35/week.

Student Parking

Free lot parking is available to the student when scheduled for clinical shifts. The south parking garage is available for student parking on the 1pm – 9:30pm shift.
