Residency Programs
Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Practice (PGY-2)
Residents in the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Practice program will be provided with the education, training and experience necessary to actively participate in a comprehensive ambulatory care setting. Experience in the organizational and managerial function of a hospital-based ambulatory pharmacy and its relationship to the hospital and community setting will also be gained. The program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Program
The hospital has extensive outpatient services which include numerous subspecialty clinics that operate each week. Participation in therapeutic decisions and recommendations in the subspecialty ambulatory care clinics as well as the clinical management of the asthma, pain management, anticoagulation, pharmacotherapy and hypertension clinics are important practice responsibilities of the pharmacy practitioner.
Additional pharmacy practice opportunities are available in numerous specialty clinics such as ambulatory care, metabolic, neurology, cardiology, internal medicine, pulmonary, family medicine and renal. The ambulatory pharmacy is supported by a sophisticated computer system that provides information ranging from drug interaction screening to early refill notification and drug usage evaluation data.
An automated system provides efficient delivery of pharmaceuticals to the hospital's ambulatory patients. Pharmacist involvement in the continuity of inpatient care, patient monitoring and patient education assures the high quality of patient care in the ambulatory setting.
