Residency Programs
Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY-1)
The PGY-1 residency provides the resident with experience and training in acute care, ambulatory care, drug information, drug use policy development, practice management and research.
As a member of the healthcare team, the resident assumes responsibility and accountability for safe and appropriate drug therapy and efficient delivery of patient care. The resident is actively involved in teaching and research activities of the department.
The program offers flexibility and provides a strong foundation in all areas of pharmacy practice and is ASHP accredited. A teaching certificate program is also available through the University of Florida.
Program
Core rotations of the program consist of departmental practice management, ambulatory practice, therapeutic policy management, internal medicine, and critical care (medical critical care or surgical/trauma critical care). Elective rotations can occur in cardiology, clinical research, psychiatry, emergency medicine, neonatology, surgery, transitional care/geriatrics, poison control/toxicology, nutritional support, nephrology, ambulatory practice management, neurology, pediatrics, OB/GYN, oncology, infectious disease, informatics, or any of the core rotations.

Application Requirements
Eligibility requirements for the PGY-1 Residency Program include the following:
- Graduate from an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
- Eligible for licensure in the State of Florida – all residents must take their exams prior to the start of the residency
- On-site interview
- For non-resident alien applicants, authorization for employment that is valid through the residency period is required
