School of Medical Technology

Shands Jacksonville professes a philosophy of healthcare based on providing the best health care possible in the most effective manner to all patients and providing medical care in concert with medical education programs. Our mission is to heal, comfort, and educate in an urban environment where outstanding care is complemented by exceptional service.

In keeping with the philosophy of Shands Jacksonville, the School of Medical Technology affirms the importance of educational programs in the advancement of health care in both the prevention of disease and the promotion of health and believes in the benefits to patient health care delivery derived from ongoing educational programs.

Goals

At Shands Jacksonville, we consider the past, study the present and anticipate the future. The School of Medical Technology is committed to:

  • providing a structured environment to achieve the competencies that embody excellence in laboratory practice
  • instilling quality assurance in performance of laboratory determinations and analyses used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the maintenance of health
  • serving as a resource for the hospital and the community in supplying competent, well-trained and well-motivated medical technologists for better medical care
  • giving medical technology students an awareness of their role as professionals in the health care setting
  • encouraging and stimulating continuing education
  • providing future supervisors, managers and educators in the health care professions
