Child Life Internship

At this time, applications are being accepted from Georgia Southern University Child and Family Development students and independent candidates only.

Goal

To encourage competency development in the Child Life profession, educational opportunities are offered at the internship level. The internship is a full-time placement in a healthcare setting where students gain intensive practical Child Life experience.

Components

  • Fifteen weeks at 36 to 42 hours per week (minimum of 500 hours total)
  • Level I trauma and level III neonatal intensive care learning environment
  • Supervision by a certified Child Life professional
  • Skill objectives based on competency guidelines

Application Process

Suggested application dates:

Fall Term Enrollment - May 5
Winter/Spring Term Enrollment - September 5
Summer Term Enrollment - January 5

Interview Process

Qualified applicants participate in an e-mail interview. Selected candidates are invited to an on-site or a telephone interview. Offer(s) are extended to one or two successful candidates. All applicants are notified of their status at least eight weeks prior to the start of each internship period.

Other Information

All offers of internship are contingent upon passing the following:

Medical Clearance: A health screen is conducted by the Shands Jacksonville Employee Health. This evaluation will include a tuberculosis test, a varicella evaluation,and a general fitness checklist. A general physical may be required.

Criminal Screen: The Department of Volunteer Services will complete a criminal background check.
